I stood in Swakopmund a long time. A little town on the west coast of Namibia in the near of Walvis Bay. Walvis Pay - there where my jeep started to Ghana by ship. Walvis Bay is a industry town, but Swakopmund is a nice place for the holyday - a place for the tourists. The history of Swakopmunds go back to the Germans, when Namibia was Deutsch Südwest Africa. The Germans was looking for a port. But Lüteritz was to far in the South and Walvis Bay was the port of the Britan.The last place, not the best, was in the near of the River Swakop. And so was born Swakopmund at the August 4th 1892. The first Germans came one year later. But the history of Swakopmund as German town was fast finished. After the 1. World war Germany must gave back all colonies. Walvis Bay was the new port and Deutsch Südwest was South Africa now. But the black poeple haven't a better life. It's difficult to say what is better - the old time by the Germans or now the new time in South Africa. Swakopmund wouldn't the great trade center with a big port to the world. In the next years explore Swakopmund a other face - as a town for rest and silence, a town on the Atlantic for the holydays.
For me was Swakopmund the right place to come back on my legs. Short ways und not so great as in Europe. And my short stay in Swakopmund would a 3 weeks longer recovery stay with small trips in the near or in the far. Now I wait only of the bill of loading and Wednesday I will go by bus to Windhoek.
