Now, so I crossed two or three times the Skeletoncoast, but I couldn't see all things. In the first time I haven't enough power and I was in haste. And in the second time I harried in the north and in the thirds I was to earlier at the day and the gates was closed. I would like see Cape Cross. Of the first you could see here at the Atlantic coast so much seals, between 60.000 to 100.000 and the other thing is, here stay a typical stone cross from the seamen of the Middle Age, when they marked a new part land. The Portuguese Diogo Cao stood here 1486 and he was the first European poeple in this dry coast. But so I have some white parts in Namibia for my next visit and I visit now the near areas of Swakopmund. All my strength wasn't back and I said it's better not so much. I changed my plan again and I delete Lüderitz and Kolmanskop, the ghost town. It's to much haste to go in the South.

Moon landscape Western of Swakopmund name a art of the Namibia Desert - Moon landscape and I was a little carious. Hardly I came outside of the town, the hot desert sun crackled on the roof of my jeep. Only the wind of the journey though the open window brought a little refresh. A long dust cloud was behind my car and many dust found the way to me and in the jeep. Apparent millimeter thick laid the dust on all my things.

After flat desert I came in a hilly desert area. Moon Valley. The first view said to me, this is the same as in Leipzig - the coal mine per day with the tips. I could know one tip on the next tip. But this here, middle in the desert, is a black landscape, create of wind and water in the last 450 mio. years and have this appearance today.

After the cross of this moon landscape you will find at the end of this road one of the cariousness plant of Namibia - the Welwitschia. 1860 was be found this plant of a Austrian man with the same name and a British man in the Swakopriver. It is one of the oldest plant genus of the earth. The plants are 1500 years old, have 2 leafs and grow hardly in the high. The wind split the leafs and they lay on the earth. Under this splited leafs the plant get your water from the daily fog. The earth is dry and haven't water for plants.

Otherwise grow only in this area some easy grasses and lichens. They give the earth protection of the erosion. But they are sensitive  against foot- and auto prints. It isn't allowed to drive off road, because you can see this prints many years later.

This was only a little trip under the hot desert sun. The poeple here said, I have many luck with the weather. So much sun and blue sky. Normal is the daily fog every morning. And is the fog in the noon also present, then he don't go about the day. The reason of the fog is the Benguelastrom in the Atlantic, parallel of the Namibia coast. He have cold water of the Antarctic. So the climate of the coast is colder as the climate in the land. And the contrast of the temperature let create the fog. Only one, when the sun have much power, will come the blue sky with the sun in the noon.

Last year, the same time, in Botswana came many water out the sky and the big catastrophe there, in the same time are raining here in Swakopmund 100 mm in 30 minutes. This is very rare here. The town was under water and Swakopmund a big sea.

It is a area with great contrast. No rain and dry desert. And to much rain in a other time.
