Meknes I have been detained in Rabat and so I came later out the town. With a little ill humour I left the town and not by best temper I arrived Meknes. But to my temper later.

Meknes is the capital of the prefecture of Meknes and surround of a threefold wall.

Although a town of considerable size even in the days of the 13th century Merenids, it wasn't until the 17th century that Meknes had its heyday when in 72 Moulay Ismail made it his capital. Over the next 55 years an enormous palace complex was built, encircled by some 25 km of walls. I came in the noon and it was closed.

And so I fought me through the wander or stray garden behind the walls. The lanes were the same an in the towns before, but more corners and many dead-end lanes. It is a puzzle to cross it. And I was happy as I found e exit and came to the medina. Then I drove to Volubilis in the near after the lunch.

Volubilis In the North of Meknes are ruins of the Roman Volubilis. In the near is the holy town Moulay Idriss, founded 788 AD.

The ruins are the best preserve in Morocco. The history goes back in the 2nd AD. Typical Roman and impressed monuments war built. The triumphal arch. Capitol. Bathes. Basilica.

Idyllic between the hills - Moulay Idriss

Fes Fes is a town of trade and was founded 808 AD. The town has 3 areas. Fes el-Bal (the oldest part of Fes) and Fes el-Jdid encircled of big walls. And the 3rd part is the New Town - Ville Novelle. Ville Novelle has been built under the French protectorate.

It was a little bit difficult to find a hotel and so I got a little helper on a moped. He brought me to a hotel in Ville Novelle. But he would go with me through the town. He was a guide and looked for the tourist. Now I was tired and haven't enjoy. Also I got the hotel only one for one night and so I said to me - tomorrow in the morning I will walked through the medina and old town alone and without a destination.

But one (half) day is a short time for Fes, also for Meknes. But I wouldn't take more time - its my back stage to Germany.

I gone through the lanes and its impressed every time. Outside of the wall you get the hot sun and in the lanes it is fresh and you can feel the fresh air of last night

Its apparent the same lanes, but its a time with silence in it. Not the lanes with the souks and the much poeple. Beside of this - its quiet and not so loud. Peace. Only one the football playing children or a mother cry your not coming child.

And in the noon, then the men are looking for the empty chairs in the shady cafes or restaurants. I took also a break by cafe ou lait and Coke.

I drove farther to the North in the noon.
