Rabat

is a new and modern town and the capital of Morocco. Rabat's history goes back to the time of Phoenician exploration. Muslims of Spain fled to Rabat in the 17. century. But the poeple of Rabat hadn't much peace. During the 17th to the 9th centuries, there notorious pirates plundered thousands of merchant vessels returning to Europe from Asia, West Africa and the America.

The first I was looking for the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, the present king's father. The Moroccans like Mohammed V. I saw his Name in streets and many places in the towns if Morocco every time. Mohammed V was boundless in love to Susan Baker. But this wasn't a story with happy end for him.

Upper left the white Mausoleum and right the coffin of the king. The guard is friendly and not so stiff as in Germany. It's allowed to take pictures and so I got a picture of one man of the guard. And he was impressed as he saw his picture.

A great place with many remains of pillars are before the mausoleum. Here stood a big mosque.

I fled of the sun and looked for a small and shady restaurant. I found it in the wall of the medina.

With a full stomach I walked to the citadel. It's a nice place at the Atlantic and fresh air came trough the lanes. It isn't the same as in Agadir, Marrakech or Casablanca. Also many poeple in the lanes, but it is more quiet. It is more village as big town. Nobody observe me an the small talks are more trivial as in the time before and so I had more enjoy to talk.

Many tourist was on the citadel. In the small and very green garden inside the kasbah I couldn't find a silence place. To much poeple and loud small talks.

Through narrow lanes with steps I gone up. Right and left small and white houses. On the top I found a restaurant with a view over the ocean and I got 2 marocain beer.

This was Rabat and now I fight me more in the North back to Europe. But the first I will go to Meknes and then to Fes.
