Mt. Kenya
|
We went by car to the Mt. Kenya National Park. Through a forest with bamboo up to the met station in a high of 3050 m. There we stood for one night. I built up my tent and after the noon the rain was come. Many monkeys are here and they are looking curious in all corners. My car was a interesting thing. In one time I forgot to close the door and so it's natural - a monkey was sitting behind the steering wheel. We started 7 am at the next day. The finish was the Mackinder camp (4300 m). I had a full and heavy back bag with tent, cooking things and food. Patrick went fast the first meters and so I must said not so fast - I'm not a Kenyan Olympian champion. We arrived the Mackinder camp after 6 and a half hour. 10 km am 1300 m in the high over muddy meadows. And in the far I could see the Mt. Kenya. After the arrive at the Mackinder camp I was tired and slept some time. My power was under zero and so I had my doubt it's possible for me go on the top tomorrow.
A curios hyrax at the Mackinder camp. Go On The Top. We started 3 am in the night. With flash light we looked for the trail and I felt after a small time - my power was back. I must say - a little surprise also for me. The Austrian hut we arrived after 2 and a half hour and took a brake. by tea in the hut. The last stage begun in the twilight and I arrived the summit Pt. Lenana. My first 5000 m. It was cold and I needed all my fleece dresses. The face was cold and I couldn't speak. But a cigarette a la rooster on the summit is necessary and natural. We went down to the Mackinder camp and I packed my back bag. We was back at the met station 3 pm. The way wasn't so muddy today and we had a beautiful weather with many sun and without rain. It was a nice trip. Not so strong as I was think. No head ache. But I was very tired. It was a heavy track in 2 days.

So I got me a nice time after this ascent. Got my beer. And met Two Dutch biker. They came from South Africa by bike. And the gave me your Lonley planet about the countries from Malawi of the South. A great help for me. The Shoestring Lonley Planet have not so much information's. I stood 3 days in the Mt. Kenya Hostel after this experience. I enjoyed the time and the society here. With Patrick I had so some fun and we made some jokes about our color of skin. I said him, It's difficult for me to take a picture of him when he have a base cape of the head. The shadow in his face is to big. And his black face with the shadow haven't a contrast. Patrick was the first poeple of my travel which could play on my guitar. When he was singing he had shining eyes. Well. I have more place in my car since Sunday, that I gave Patrick the guitar and his eyes can shining every time. I think, he had tears in the eyes. Well, now I will go to Tanzania.
